In this interesting video Ilana Schoenfeld (MIT) shows us how many of the patterns in nature and society can be explained using complex systems. When we observe the amazing flocks of birds evolving in the air we ask ourselves about the system that coordinate it. Independent agents moving in unison as a centralized authority rules their movements. But the complexity science shows how it is managed in a surprising easy way.
Only three basic rules at the individual level can generate the dynamic of that intrincate pattern. This bottom-up approach can be used in many problems from biology, to sociology or economics.
